At Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, we know that affordable homeownership allows individuals and families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance. However, many essential workers—the people who keep our community running—struggle to afford homes near their workplaces.

These challenges include:

The Workforce Housing Gap: Many individuals, including teachers, healthcare workers, first responders, and service industry employees, earn too much to qualify for traditional housing assistance but still cannot afford homeownership.
Housing Cost Burden: In Knox County, families who qualify for workforce housing have a median income of $77,400 (80% AMI). Yet, many spend 50-70% of their income on housing, leaving little for necessities like food, healthcare, and education.
